Clothing with heritage images

with No Comments

In October last year I presented at the wonderful Sharing is Caring conference in Copenhagen. I was doing a Pecha Kucha about Aagaards Photos (see the photos on Flickr). At the same time I was showing off my new dress made from custom printed fabric with some of Aagaards photos on.

In October I promised to make the image I had printed on the fabric available alongside a tutorial on how to make clothes out of custom printed heritage fabric. Only a couple of months late, but now it is here.

All the images used are CC SA-BY and the ones taken by @jrouedcunliffe are available in this Flickr album.

So what’s next. Well I would like to make something out of other Danish heritage images or artworks.

Currently I am looking at The National Gallery of Denmark’s public domain images as well as the National Museum of Denmark’s open collections.

I documented the process of making the dress thoroughly and shared the journey using the hashtag #ccsewingproject, mostly on Instagram. I will continue to share the ongoing fun of making fun items with heritage imagery and if you decide to join in I hope you will share your images with me using #ccsewingproject.
